Title: Waking Nights

Unexpectedly available again. We are looking for a carer to work with ‘L’. ‘L’ is 18 and has an acquired brain injury. He loves music and has a slightly wicked sense of humour, so the carer must have a sense of fun! ‘L’ is a wheelchair user and requires all help with everyday activities and personal care. He also has epilepsy, which requires emergency medication. He has a gastrostomy tube and he also eats orally. ‘L’ has a 24 hour care package and we are looking for an additional person to join his friendly team to cover Monday nights and alternate Saturdays. This could possibly be a job share. ‘L’ communicates non-verbally so carers need to be sensitive to this an encourage him as much as possible. The ideal person will be patient, kind and have a sense of humour. The current care team is well established and the new person must be adaptable and willing to learn their way of working. The role is a waking night and hours are 11pm-9am. The carer will need to check on ‘L’ every hour and reposition him during the night. The morning routine involves getting ‘L’ ready for college, administering gastrostomy feeds and medication and having breakfast. A second carer will always be present in the morning as ‘L’ does physio exercises requiring 2 people. The family have recently adapted accommodation with separate areas for carers to use. More information available from Kim at SNAP who has met the family.
